I’m particular excited for Sisterhood of Hip-Hop because Nyemiah Supreme, Brianna Perry and Siya used to be (and will continue to be till the show commences) one of the most slept on artists in the Hip-Hop/Rap industry.
Usually I wouldn’t mind it too much when up and coming Hip-Hop artists get snubbed because nowadays almost every black middle class dude wants to be a rapper, but Nyemiah Supreme, Brianna Perry and Siya are actually talented.
These creatives not only bring new lyricism techniques to the game, but also new perspectives and stories. New perspectives is refreshing to any Hip-Hop fan who is tired of the same old regurgitated minstrel productions by mainstream cis hetero male rappers.
Although I am excited for them, I am somewhat cautious because I know T.I is directing it and he is a well known capitalist, colorist, misogynist, misogynoirst, heterosexist and all round horrible human being. I am hoping against this but I won’t be surprised if he tries to turn these talented women into caricatures and Sisterhood of of Hip-Hop into a minstrel show.
Either way, I have been a long-time fan of Nyemia Supreme, Brianna Perry, and Siya and I will continue to be because their talent speaks for itself.
